Michigan & Midwest Music Festival Guide 2026

May 22, 2026Guides

From forest campgrounds to city parks and lakefront venues, Michigan and the Midwest have a varied festival landscape. This guide separates confirmed 2026 dates from historical or unverified entries while comparing musical styles and settings. Distances and crowd figures are approximate background estimates, not confirmed travel times or 2026 capacities.

Festival coverage is not legal permission. Ann Arbor Resolution R-20-370 sets local enforcement priorities, not statewide or interstate authorization. Event rules and the law at each location apply independently. Do not infer that a festival allows controlled substances because it appears in a MycoAndCo article.

Michigan Music Festivals

Electric Forest — Rothbury, MI

  • 2026 dates: June 25-28, a four-day event
  • Distance from Ann Arbor: ~190 miles, ~3 hours via US-23 and US-31
  • Music and setting: jam, electronic, hip-hop, and bass programming in a wooded festival setting, with Sherwood Forest art and installations.
  • Capacity: ~45,000
  • Planning notes: a multi-day campground event calls for attention to sleep, weather, and hydration. Our Electric Forest safety article discusses environmental hazards and support; the festival prohibits illegal substances.

Movement Electronic Music Festival — Detroit, MI

  • 2026 dates: May 23-25, Memorial Day weekend
  • Distance from Ann Arbor: ~45 miles, ~50 minutes via I-94
  • Music and setting: techno, house, and electronic programming at Detroit's Hart Plaza, rooted in the city's electronic-music history.
  • Capacity: ~120,000 across the weekend (~40k/day)
  • Planning notes: an urban venue means walking on hard surfaces and planning transport or overnight accommodation. Detroit has its own voter-approved entheogenic policy, distinct from Ann Arbor's; neither local measure legalizes controlled substances.

Hoxeyville Music Festival — Wellston, MI

  • 2026 status: no verified date is provided here; this is a historical regional reference, not a confirmed 2026 listing
  • Distance from Ann Arbor: ~220 miles, ~3.5 hours via US-127 and M-37
  • Music and setting: historically a smaller wooded gathering associated with bluegrass, jam, Americana, and folk near Wellston.
  • Capacity: ~5,000
  • Planning notes: confirm whether an event is actually scheduled before making travel or camping arrangements. A familiar name and traditional August timing do not establish a current edition.

Faster Horses Festival — Brooklyn, MI Canceled for 2026

2026 cancellation: Faster Horses did not return to Michigan International Speedway this year. The Detroit Free Press report of March 4, 2026 and Cambridge Township information reported by WKHM Jackson NewsTalk describe the cancellation. Treat this entry as a record of a canceled event, not as a summer travel recommendation.

  • 2026 status: canceled; this listing is not a scheduled event
  • Historical setting: a July weekend at Michigan International Speedway, 12626 US Highway 12, Brooklyn, MI 49230
  • Distance from Ann Arbor: ~45 miles, ~50 minutes via M-50 (if and when it returns)
  • Music and setting: historically a large country-music gathering at the speedway, with substantial crowds. Event reputation does not establish legal permission or a safe environment for substance use.
  • Capacity (historic): ~90,000
  • Ticket questions: ask the seller or platform that handled your purchase about the applicable cancellation terms. This guide cannot confirm an individual booking or refund.
  • Future editions: check fasterhorsesfestival.com for an actual organizer announcement before planning another trip.

Other Brooklyn-area plans? Michigan International Speedway has programming separate from Faster Horses. Check its official schedule before traveling. MycoAndCo is at 2007 S State Street in Ann Arbor, open daily 10AM-9PM; actual travel time depends on your route and traffic.

Mo Pop Festival — Detroit, MI

  • 2026 status: no 2026 date confirmed here; the organizer's website carries a thank-you message rather than a current schedule
  • Distance from Ann Arbor: ~45 miles, ~50 minutes via I-94
  • Music and setting: a historical Detroit indie, alternative, and hip-hop festival with an urban setting; previous locations should not be assumed for a future edition.
  • Capacity: ~40,000 across two days
  • Planning notes: treat this entry as festival history, not an active travel recommendation. Require a dated organizer announcement before booking.

Illinois Music Festivals

Lollapalooza — Chicago, IL

  • 2026 dates: July 30-August 2
  • Distance from Ann Arbor: ~285 miles, ~4.5 hours via I-94
  • Music and setting: a large, multi-stage event in Chicago's Grant Park, with broad programming that includes pop, hip-hop, and other genres.
  • Capacity: ~115,000 per day
  • Planning notes: large crowds, summer heat, and substantial walking make comfortable footwear and recovery breaks important. Ann Arbor's local resolution supplies no authorization in Illinois; follow applicable law and event rules.

Pitchfork Music Festival — Chicago, IL

  • 2026 status: the July 17-19 dates previously shown here were unverified. Pitchfork announced it would not host Chicago's festival in 2025; no 2026 Chicago edition is confirmed in this guide
  • Distance from Ann Arbor: ~285 miles, ~4.5 hours via I-94
  • Music and setting: historically a curated mix of indie, experimental, hip-hop, and electronic music at Union Park.
  • Capacity: ~18,000 per day
  • Planning notes: this is a historical entry, not a ticket or accommodation recommendation for 2026. Do not transfer old dates or closing times to a new season.

Summer Camp Music Festival — Chillicothe, IL

  • 2026 status: canceled. The announced May 21-24 event was canceled in May, according to JamBase reporting
  • Distance from Ann Arbor: ~440 miles, ~7 hours via I-94 and I-55
  • Music and setting: jam, bluegrass, and electronic music associated with Three Sisters Park near Peoria and multi-day camping.
  • Capacity: ~20,000
  • Planning notes: an early ticket or date announcement is not confirmation of an event's final status. Check the organizer's latest notice before relying on older camping plans.

North Coast Music Festival — Chicago, IL

  • 2026 dates: September 4-6, Labor Day weekend
  • Distance from Ann Arbor: ~285 miles, ~4.5 hours via I-94
  • Music and setting: electronic programming at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, in the Chicago area.
  • Capacity: ~35,000 per day
  • Planning notes: expect a stadium setting rather than a wooded campground. Check entry, transport, and support information specific to SeatGeek Stadium.

Ohio Music Festivals

Lost Lands Music Festival — Thornville, OH

  • 2026 dates: September 18-20 at Legend Valley
  • Distance from Ann Arbor: ~225 miles, ~4 hours via US-23 and I-70
  • Music and setting: Excision's bass-focused event, with dubstep, riddim, tearout, and drum & bass programming and a dinosaur theme.
  • Capacity: ~35,000
  • Planning notes: intense sound and moving crowds make hearing protection, quieter breaks, and access to support important. Read our Lost Lands safety article for environmental risks and recovery topics. Ann Arbor policy does not apply in Ohio.

Bunbury Music Festival — Cincinnati, OH

  • 2026 status: no verified 2026 edition or dates are provided here; this is a historical reference
  • Distance from Ann Arbor: ~250 miles, ~4 hours via I-75
  • Music and setting: historically rock, indie, hip-hop, and electronic programming around Cincinnati's Ohio River waterfront.
  • Capacity: ~30,000 per day
  • Planning notes: verify that the organizer has announced an edition before arranging travel. Local policy from Michigan does not supply permission in Ohio.

The Werk Out Music & Arts Festival — Thornville, OH

  • 2026 status: no verified dates are provided here; do not treat a traditional month as a confirmed schedule
  • Distance from Ann Arbor: ~225 miles, ~4 hours via US-23 and I-70
  • Music and setting: a festival associated with The Werks, jam music, electronic programming, and Legend Valley.
  • Capacity: ~5,000
  • Planning notes: a returning community can be part of the appeal, but each edition still needs a confirmed date, venue, and ticket announcement.

Wisconsin Music Festivals

Eaux Claires Music Festival — Eau Claire, WI

  • 2026 dates: July 24-25 at Carson Park, Eau Claire
  • Distance from Ann Arbor: ~580 miles, ~9 hours via I-94
  • Music and setting: a two-day music and arts event with indie and experimental roots; the confirmed 2026 setting was Carson Park.
  • Capacity: ~22,000
  • Planning notes: use the organizer's edition-specific transport and accommodation information. Do not assume older camping arrangements apply to the Carson Park event.

Country Thunder Wisconsin — Twin Lakes, WI

  • 2026 dates: July 16-19
  • Distance from Ann Arbor: ~350 miles, ~5.5 hours via I-94
  • Music and setting: four days of country programming at the Wisconsin edition of Country Thunder.
  • Capacity: ~30,000 per day
  • Planning notes: included for regional country-music context, with its own entry, camping, and venue policies.

Indiana, Kentucky & Tennessee

Forecastle Festival — Louisville, KY

  • 2026 status: no verified 2026 dates are provided here; this is a historical Louisville festival reference
  • Distance from Ann Arbor: ~370 miles, ~5.5 hours via I-71
  • Music and setting: historically indie, Americana, and hip-hop programming at Louisville's Waterfront Park.
  • Capacity: ~75,000 across the weekend
  • Planning notes: require a current organizer announcement before planning an edition. Ann Arbor's resolution does not override Kentucky law.

Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival — Manchester, TN

  • 2026 dates: June 11-14
  • Distance from Ann Arbor: ~580 miles, ~9 hours via I-75
  • Music and setting: a four-day destination event on a rural Tennessee farm, with broad programming including jam, indie, hip-hop, electronic, and country.
  • Capacity: ~80,000
  • Planning notes: campground comfort and community spirit do not change applicable law. Use the event's official rules and current travel information rather than relying on Ann Arbor policy.

Heatwave Music Festival - Chicago, IL

  • 2026 status: no verified 2026 dates are provided here; older organizer information concerns a Chicago event
  • Location note: the organizer's published venue information identifies Chicago's Northerly Island, not an Earlville campground
  • Music and setting: electronic dance programming; older official material describes an urban Chicago venue, not a camping festival.
  • Capacity: ~15,000
  • Planning notes: do not apply old dates, venue details, or a campground description to an unconfirmed 2026 edition.

General Festival Prep — The MycoAndCo Checklist

Whatever festival you’re heading to, the prep work is mostly the same. Stop by MycoAndCo in Ann Arbor and pick up:

  • Compare product formats - browse capsules and tablets or gummies, and check each ingredient list.
  • Functional mushroom support — Lion’s mane for cognition, cordyceps for physical stamina, reishi for sleep recovery. Useful at any festival regardless of what else you do.
  • Education first — Read our microdosing guide, safety guide, the Electric Forest survival guide, and the Lost Lands survival guide before you go.
  • Water, electrolytes, and proper meals - These basic preparations deserve attention. Exhaustion can make a festival weekend much harder to manage.

The Bottom Line

Festival season in the Midwest is one of the best stretches of the calendar year. Electric Forest, Lost Lands, Movement, and the smaller jam festivals like Hoxeyville and The Werk Out are world-class events. If psilocybin is part of how you experience them, prepare in Ann Arbor, dose intentionally, and respect the laws where you’re going.
