Types of Magic Mushroom Varieties
Every strain on the menu above is a genetic variety of the same species — Psilocybe cubensis — the most widely cultivated psilocybin mushroom. Different varieties (also called strains, kinds, or subtypes) produce noticeably different experiences even though they share the same active compound. That is what the color-coded potency bars are telling you: how one variety compares to another.
If you're new to this, think of it the way people think about coffee. Same plant, wildly different roasts. Golden Teacher is a medium roast; Enigma is triple-shot espresso.
Psilocybe Species: The Broader Family
The genus Psilocybe contains roughly 200 identified species worldwide, of which around 100 are psychoactive. A handful appear commonly in the retail market or in cultivation literature:

What MycoAndCo carries: Psilocybe cubensis, exclusively. Cubensis strains offer the most consistent, well-documented experience and the most reliable dosing. Wild-foraged species like semilanceata and cyanescens are considerably harder to dose accurately and are not something we recommend beginners work with.
Kinds of Shrooms: Product Formats
Beyond the strain, magic mushrooms come in several product formats. Same active compound, different delivery:

Best strains for first-timers?
Golden Teacher is our #1 recommendation for first-time users — reliable, forgiving, and beautifully balanced. Purple Mystic, Rango, and Slim Shady are also excellent beginner options. All deliver a predictable, well-understood experience without dramatic intensity.

What is the strongest strain you carry?
Enigma and Albino Penis Envy are our highest-potency varieties. Enigma is a genetic blob mutation that consistently tests among the highest psilocybin concentrations of any cubensis strain ever documented. Both are for highly experienced users only.
What does the potency bar mean?
The 5-segment bar represents relative psilocybin concentration — green (low) through red (extreme). Higher potency means more effect per gram. This is why advanced strains like Penis Envy or Enigma should be dosed at 30–50% less than the amounts on the dosage table.
Which strains are best for microdosing?
Golden Teacher, Rango, and Purple Mystic. Their moderate, consistent potency makes sub-perceptual calibration easier. We also carry pre-measured microdose capsules if you prefer not to weigh your own doses.
How should I store dried mushrooms?
In an airtight container, away from heat, light, and humidity. A cool, dark drawer or cabinet works well. Avoid refrigerators due to moisture risk. Properly stored dried mushrooms retain potency for 6–12 months or longer.
