Hillbilly (also called Hill Billy) is a long-circulating Psilocybe cubensis strain that has been in cultivator hands since the 1990s. Community attribution traces it to Texas, and the name has stuck through countless generations of strain-to-strain passage. Hillbilly is one of the parent stocks behind a small family of related strains in our catalog — Pumpkin Hillbilly, Albino Hillbilly, and the CaNoPiEs-line White Billy all trace back to this reference.
Hillbilly fruits are small-to-medium with conical-to-flat caramel-brown caps and proportionally thin cream-colored stems. The strain is known for two things: fast colonization (it gets out of the gate ahead of most cubensis) and a very flat, broadly forgiving fruiting profile that produces reliable yields without much fuss. Bruising is mild — light blue under handling rather than the dramatic deep blue of higher-potency strains — and batch-to-batch potency variance is smaller than on almost any other strain in the catalog.

Onset 30–45 minutes on a light meal, peak around 90 minutes, total session four to six hours. Body load is present but gentle and mobile — walkable throughout. Visuals are pattern-forward and warm-toned rather than saturated; open-eye visuals stay light at museum doses and become more definitive at full doses without ever becoming overwhelming. How to weigh and portion accurately
Dried mushroom potency varies within a single flush — caps are typically 20–40% more potent per gram than stems, and smaller mushrooms tend to test higher than larger ones. To eliminate that variance and get a consistent session dose from Hill Billy, grind your entire eighth into a homogenous powder before weighing out your session dose. A coffee grinder works fine; a mortar and pestle is quieter and preserves the aroma.
Use a scale with 0.01g precision (0.05g minimum). Kitchen scales that measure to the nearest gram will not give you accurate psilocybin doses. If you're microdosing, you need 0.01g resolution or the variance between "microdose" and "threshold dose" will drift session to session.
Set and setting: the two variables that shape every trip
"Set" is your mindset going in — are you calm, curious, well-slept, and free of acute stress? "Setting" is your physical environment — is it comfortable, private, safe, and free of interruptions? These two variables have as much influence on a psilocybin session as the dose itself.
