Hash Bash 2026: Ann Arbor Event Guide

March 25, 2026EducationEvents

Hash Bash's 2026 rally was scheduled for Saturday, April 4 at the University of Michigan Diag. The annual cannabis-advocacy event belongs to Ann Arbor's civic history, while the city's 2020 entheogenic resolution is a separate enforcement policy. MycoAndCo's South State Street location does not turn either policy into legal permission to use or sell controlled substances.

This Hash Bash 2026 reference covers the Diag rally, its history, related events, and campus restrictions. Store information is separate from the rally and from any legal authorization to use controlled substances.

Hash Bash 2026 at the University of Michigan Diag

The 2026 rally was scheduled for noon on Saturday, April 4 at the University of Michigan Diag, 913 S. University Ave, Ann Arbor. Admission was free without a ticket. The annual gathering combines speeches and cannabis-law advocacy; a predicted crowd size should not be treated as verified attendance.

Hash Bash began in 1972 in the aftermath of the John Sinclair case, in which the activist received a ten-year sentence for two marijuana cigarettes. The annual rally became a continuing Ann Arbor tradition centered on cannabis-law reform, public advocacy, and community gathering.

The 2026 article announced that the Monroe Street Fair would not take place, citing logistical difficulties. It should not be confused with the Diag rally or treated as an automatic part of every Hash Bash weekend.

The Hash Bash Cup was a separate ticketed event announced for April 3-5 at the Wyndham Garden Hotel and Hampton Inn & Suites Ann Arbor West. Its showcases, competitions, performances, and food programming were distinct from the free university rally.

Hash Bash Campus Rules & Public Safety

Michigan's adult-use cannabis framework does not permit marijuana on University of Michigan property, including the Diag. Campus rules and the university's federal obligations remain relevant. U-M and Ann Arbor police announced enforcement for the 2026 event; attending a rally is not an exemption from those rules.

Ann Arbor's Separate Entheogenic Decriminalization Policy

Cannabis advocacy and Ann Arbor's entheogenic resolution are different policy stories. In September 2020, City Council unanimously adopted Resolution R-20-370, making investigation and arrest for specified entheogenic activities the city's lowest enforcement priority. The resolution asks the prosecutor to cease prosecution, but does not legalize the substances or authorize crimes.

Ann Arbor followed early local reform in cities including Oakland and Santa Cruz. Its entheogenic policy belongs to a wider history of advocacy, but that history should not erase the legal distinctions between cannabis rules, psilocybin enforcement priorities, and federal drug approval.
